Mont Tremblant International Airport announces EXPANSION PLAN

Mont Tremblant Airport

Thanks to current overwhelming demand and anticipated extra traffic due to the new Mont Tremblant Casino, the Mont Tremblant International Airport (M.T.I.A) has just announced plans to develop additional infra-structure to accommodate the increased volume of traffic in 2008.  Airport developer, Serge Lariviere, is astonished at current traffic demands. ‘Last year we were forced to refuse landing-permission due to the lack of parking space for jets’ he declares.  And, thanks to interest from numerous international airlines from Mexico and Europe it has been deemed necessary to expand is to handle Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 aircraft.

Expansion will commence this summer and will extend into 2010. Improvements include widening and repairing the main runway, expanding the tarmac from 5,000 square meters to 25,000 and enlarging airport terminal.  And, as an added attraction, the airport is considering the addition of a water runway. This will enable MTIA to offer floatplane service to destinations accessible only by floatplanes. According to Serge, ‘this will give us the ability to ‘open-up-the-north’ for those looking for a truly unique holiday experience’.

‘Our expansion project represents a very important step in the development of our airport. When complete we will play a very important role in the development of the tourist industry in the entire Mont Tremblant region’ he concludes.
